The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially been revealed

The bigger brother of the Switch launches this year.

January 16, 2025 12:35 PM

After months and months of hardware leaks, Nintendo has officially announced the follow up to the Nintendo Switch, the sensibly named Nintendo Switch 2.

Featuring an overall bigger design, magnetic Joycons, two USB-C ports and a much larger kickstand, the Switch 2 just like it's predecessor can move between handheld and docked TV play modes.

Nintendo had previously confirmed that console will play cartridges for the original console as well as exclusive Switch 2 games.

The console will launch sometime this year with a special Nintendo Direct to be held on April 2nd, and a special hands-on event for Australian players will be held in Melbourne on May 10-11. Players with a Nintendo Switch Online account can register for the Melbourne hands on here.

Only one game was shown in the trailer, which looked like a new version Mario Kart but expect to learn more about that in April.
