Codemaster's return to rally with WRC promises a realistic racing experience

Developers Ross Gowing, Senior Creative Director and Jon Armstrong, Rally Driver and Game Designer took us for a spin

September 22, 2023 1:00 AM

Codemasters want their next rally game to feel as realistic as possible when they return to the track on November 2nd this year.

In a recent preview Jon Armstrong game designer and real life rally driver said that he had even been using it to train between races.

Satellite topography along with photo and video capture have been used to recreate some of the real WRC circuits, with this new entry trending towards serious racing rather than an arcadey experience.

Senior Creative Director Ross Gowling said that some of the courses are as close to the real route as you could get, and the team were concentrating on mastering the handling of the cars on the road.

Some good ninja stuff, good samurai stuff, it took them a long time to get here but boy I'm glad they did.

Pros:
  • Naoe feels like the old assassins from previous games
  • Yasuke definitely doesn't, which is very welcome change
  • Absolutely stunning world that feels busy and lived in
Cons:
  • Maybe the world actually might be too big?
  • It's an evolution not a revolution, if you've bounced off Assassin's Creed in the past this doesn't break the mold.
