Our fifth annual list collecting every single game that has been made in Australia, from PC, Xbox, PlayStation Switch and more, SIFTER has collected every game released this year.
I'm pleased to present the fifth annual Australian Made Games List for 2023. Every year I collect and document every game I can find so that this history of Australian game development is recorded. I won't lie though, this year was a lot harder with the collapse of Twitter as the game development community moves into better, but ultimately more fragmented online spaces.
You might not know that SIFTER's podcast Lightmap was selected for collection in the National Film and Sound Archive, our interview show is a long running and important record of the creative works made in this country. This list each year is a complete labour of love for me, I do it because I believe that creative work should be acknowledged and remembered.
If you've ever appreciated the work the team here at SIFTER has done since we started back in 2015, I'm asking you please to share it with your friends and colleagues, to join our newsletter, and if you have the means to support us financically so we can cover our costs on Ko-Fi. We're indie creators just like most of you and while it might not look like it we are almost entirely self-funded.
This year Victorian developers released 31 games, Western Australians had their biggest year in our records with 17 releases, New South Wales based devs 11, South Australians released 12, Queenslanders released 8 games, Australian Capital Territory had 4, Tasmania had 3.
Overall Steam was still the most popular platform to release on with 49 different games launching there. Itch saw 20 releases and Nintendo Switch saw 7 games released. PlayStation had eight Australian made games and Xbox had seven launches this year.
If we've missed your game, please get in touch and we'll add it in. I've done hard work to capture everything we can find, but as the last five years have taught us there are always more games to learn about. You can add your game using our form here: Add my game to the Australian Made Game List and we'll update this page
Each game is added to this list once in the month of the their first release, but we include other later platform releases in that entry as well.
That's it for another year we'll be back with more next year if you appreciate our jourrnalism please share our work with your friends. Check out the last four years of Australian made games below
